Thursday, 10th May 2007
Labour party chair Hazel Blears issued a stark warning that Labour could soon 'cease to exist as a national political party' without major structural and cultural change, in a Fabian Society and Young Fabians lecture on the eve of the party leadership contest.
Blears offered a vision of how Labour should respond to the ways in which our society and politics are changing. Can the Labour Party survive the technological and societal changes that are engulfing our politics? As forms of political organisation transform, new technologies challenge traditional political discourse, and the old tribal political loyalties disintegrate, what future is there for a party still modelled on an early twentieth century world view?
The event took place at 1 Queen Anne's Gate on Thursday May 10th at 6.30pm.
