Our biggest event of the year, dedicated to foreign policy, takes
place precisely one year before President Bush leaves office. What
happens next could be up to us. Can those who believe in a progressive
and multilateral approach show that we have effective answers to the
world's biggest problems?
The 2008 Fabian New Year Conference focuses on global politics.
The conference takes place one year before President George W Bush
leaves office – with his successor as US President to be inaugurated on
20th January 2009.
We will ask how the values of the internationalist left can shape
the future of global politics, and whether those who believe in an
alternative approach can show we have effective answers to the biggest
global issues.
What are the lessons of the last decade? What role should Britain
and Europe play in the world? How do we forge effective links with
progressives in the US and around the world?
How can we find the multilateral solutions we need to global
problems? What will this mean in practice on the biggest issues – such
as climate change, global poverty, security, Middle East peace, and
migration?
Can democracy and diplomacy mix? What would make a more democratic and ethical foreign policy possible?
Full information about the event, including how to book a ticket, will be published in the Autumn of 2007. |
