Early day motion backs new bank holiday PDF Print E-mail
Former Foreign Office minister Tony Lloyd has made an early day motion calling for an extra British bank holiday. Lloyd cites the Fabian bank holiday campaign as a factor in bringing the issue to public attention.

In the motion Lloyd says the Fabian Society had helped build a "sound case" for a new bank holiday. He says: "a well thought out new public holiday would bring people together for a national day of celebration and that a new public holiday would help to improve the work-life balance of employess and improve productivity."

"Hard-working Britons deserve an extra day off each year," says the motion, and it asks the Government to recognise the increasing public demand for an extra day off by "announcing the introduction of a new bank holiday at the earliest opportunity."
