Former interns
Tamsin Berry (2007), says:
"After university I jumped straight into a graduate training scheme without really thinking about my career. I soon realised that I was unhappy and wanted to pursue my interest in politics. Interning with the Fabians helped me to gain the essential experience I needed to be able to work in central government. My time there gave me real insight into the world of party politics, what drives the policy agenda and the Labour Party. I helped researchers with their preliminary reading, drew up lists of invites for political events and best of all, helped out at the Labour Party Conference. I learnt a lot, made new friends and had lots of fun doing it."
Ed Thornton (2007), says:
"After working for two years as a business journalist I decided I wanted to pursue a career in political journalism, or something related. I was fortunate enough to be offered a two-day-a-week internship at the Fabians soon after I left my job, which proved an invaluable experience. During the three months I interned I worked on an edition of the Fabian Review (which included writing a book review and attending and writing up a heated interview between Matthew Taylor and Mayer Hilman), attended numerous talks and debates and helped organise press briefings for foreign journalists. After the internship ended, I was offered another internship at Progress where I now work as a publications assistant.
The Fabian staff were very friendly and helpful and made every effort to include interns in the life of the organisation. "
