Originally from South Wales, Mari Williams is Head of History in a South London secondary school.
Mari is passionate about teaching and transforming education in our inner-cities. She believes politics has to include an understanding of the front line, if policy is going to be relevant. Through the Institute of Education she conducted research on ways of developing citizenship education through historical case studies. She is involved in an US organisation called Facing History and Ourselves which looks at history through patterns of human behaviour.
An active member of the Labour Party since she was 17, she has been a member of Labour's National Policy Forum and stood for the National Executive of the Labour Party. Formerly Chair of the Young Fabians, she was a contributor to the National Dictionary of Labour Biography. She is an active trade unionist.
She is interested in the politics of teaching History and Citizenship and is keen to address local society groups on this or a related issue. |
