It’s now 12 months since I became Fabian General Secretary and we’ve made some important changes:

• A new look for the Fabian Review – as you’ll see we have given the magazine a complete make-over. This quarter we consider why politics is ‘on another planet’ and introduce a new expanded Fabian Society section.

• Here on our redesigned website, the Fabian Review has extended online content with essays, commentary, book reviews and history.

• More reports – as well as quarterly pamphlets we are publishing web-exclusive reports featuring Fabian research and the best new thinking on the left.

• More member meetings – we now hold regular evening meetings for members in and around London and will be organising one-day conferences in London, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Peterborough and Bournemouth in the coming months. Local Fabian Societies continue to thrive and you can see full listings here.

To keep you informed about all we’re up to we’ve also launched Fabian News, our regular email bulletin. If you’re a member and are not receiving it, we don’t have a current email address for you. Please email giles.wright@fabians.org.uk to update us. If you’re not a member, then join the Fabian Society.

If you’re a Fabian member and want to have your say about how the Society is run, you have until 5pm on Friday 26th October to vote in our Executive Committee elections. The Fabian Society Executive Committee governs the activity of the Fabian Society and is elected annually in a ballot of Fabian Society members. For the first time ever, you can now vote online: just visit www.votebyinternet.com/fabians2012. Now that’s it easier than ever to vote, I hope you’ll take the time to choose who you want to shape the Society’s direction.

This year the Executive Committee has been reviewing the governance of the society and it is now seeking members’ support for a series of changes to our rules. You can read the proposals in full here and have your say by attending our AGM on .

Last but not least, in 2013 the Society will be moving home to refurbished office and meeting space at 61 Petty France, Westminster. This is a big moment as we have been in our current Dartmouth Street building for over 80 years. It’s been a wonderful home for the Society but sadly the years have taken their toll and we need to move on to a more modern office space. I hope those members who have fond memories of the old building will help us mark its passing before we move out next year. Please drop me a line if you’d like to find out more.
