Germany’s federal system has long offered a distinctive model for sharing power, giving regions meaningful autonomy while maintaining a strong national framework.

But Germany is also confronting growing political disillusionment and the rise of the AfD, reflecting wider challenges facing democracies across Europe.

This panel will explore what Britain can learn from Germany about devolution, regional equality and democratic resilience and how progressive parties can respond to the rise of populism.
