The Fabian Society is seeking a talented and motivated MEMBERSHIP AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER or DIRECTOR to lead our digital and stakeholder communications and transform our membership offer and experience.

The organisation
The Fabian Society has been shaping and influencing politics and public policy for over 130 years.
We are an independent left-wing think tank and democratic membership society with over 7,000 members. We publish articles and reports, conduct research and major inquiries, convene conferences and events and facilitate our members’ political debate and activism across the UK. Our employees share the aims and values of the society and automatically join as members upon appointment.
With less than 15 months to go until the next UK election, it could not be a more exciting time to take over the leadership of our communications and membership activities and have a real impact on UK politics.
About the Post
The role of MEMBERSHIP AND COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER or DIRECTOR is to lead and develop the society’s digital communications, marketing, stakeholder engagement and membership experience and activism. We are recruiting either a manager or a director depending on the successful candidate’s existing skills and experience so as to attract the widest possible pool of applicants.
This is a new job and a new team. You will be responsible for reviewing and reinventing our digital communications, marketing, member experience and stakeholder relations. As one of your first responsibilities you will work with developers to commission and launch a a new website for the society. In parallel you will develop new programmes for our members, enhance our members’ experience, and develop new stakeholder communications and activities. The post-holder will initially line manage one member of staff and we are likely to add an additional communications post in the future.
The ideal candidate would have experience in a policy/political environment or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge; understanding of membership organisations and supporting member or volunteer activity; a flair for marketing and digital communications; experience of commissioning, managing or advanced use of professional websites and/or CRM systems; experience of line management; a strong understanding of and engagement with the Fabian Society’s objectives and values.
