High streets were once the beating heart of local communities – places where people shopped, worked and built social capital. But today, too many have been left behind, embattled with empty shopfronts, rising costs and declining investment.

As trust in politics has weakened, many people have become nostalgic for the sense of community and local pride they feel has been lost. Revitalising our high streets is more than just about economic renewal; it’s about restoring the places that bring communities together.

This panel will explore the steps needed to revive Britain’s high streets, making them vibrant centres of enterprise, community and local prosperity.

Speakers:

  • Joe Powell MP – Member of Parliament for Kensington and Bayswater
  • Cllr Arooj Shah – Labour Group Leader, Former Council Leader; Oldham Council
  • Justin Young – Chief Executive – RICS
  • Ben Cooper – Research Manager and Head of the Fabian Housing Centre, Fabian Society
