Labour affiliated think tank responds to the Mayfield review
Responding to Sir Charlie Mayfield’s Keep Britain Working Review, released by the Government today, Sasjkia Otto, Senior Researcher at the Fabian Society said:
“The UK workforce is changing rapidly, and we have seen a significant rise in health-related inactivity. Having a plan to meet this challenge could be make or break for the UK economy and public services. So, it is critical to ensure all employers are supported and incentivised to play their part.
“Today’s report represents a momentous step in tackling a problem that is wasting too much potential in the UK. If we want people and businesses to thrive, and our economy to grow, we must examine how we can make work healthier and more inclusive for everyone.
“Our research at the Fabian Society research has shown that this is a shared problem, which must be addressed through partnership between employers, workers and the state. We commend the government for grasping this challenge, and the new Vanguard employers for stepping up to lead the way in forging this partnership.
“Now, it is critical to maintain momentum, so we have a clear path forward by the next spending review.”
