Pathways to Apprenticeships
The government is seeking both to reverse the dramatic decline in young apprentices seen over the last decade and to reduce the number of young people who are not in employment, education or training.
Strengthening pre-apprenticeship pathways could help deliver on both of these goals. Yet we do not currently have a pre-apprenticeship system worthy of the name. While the academic route is clear and well understood, the pathway for young people who want to take an apprenticeship remains complex and opaque.
In this report, Joe Dromey sets out how we can strengthen pre-apprenticeship pathways, so that all young people have a clear route into a skilled job.
